Conservation Legacy brings natural resource education directly to Texas students at no cost through a variety of methods and venues that enable teachers and TWAF to enhance science-based educational effectiveness through curricula integration and augmentation. Whether it is utilizing Discovery Trunks or practicing experimental design, the programs are designed as an educator’s toolbox for achieving a better understanding of state-mandated learning objectives, and even more importantly providing learning opportunities with key resources that develop students who are natural resource literate.
Discovery Trunks include hands-on, curriculum enhancing TEKS aligned, natural resource materials and lessons shipped to schools across Texas at no cost. There are currently 152 Discovery Trunks in circulation throughout Texas, covering topics such as butterflies, water, bats, birds and land stewardship (and more). Educators are equipped with the necessary tools to enable them to deploy the curriculum with as much or as little assistance from Texas Wildlife Association education staff.
Wildlife by Design Classroom Presentations are an opportunity for teachers to work with TWA’s education staff to develop customized, hands-on, grade (K-8) and unit specific wildlife and natural resources conservation presentations for the classroom. Contract educators visit schools three (3) days a week on average, armed with interactive wildlife-based lessons, activities and demonstrations covering a wide array of topics (examples: water education, predator/prey relationships, and native wildlife biology).
Distance Learning (Videoconferences and On-demand Webinars) are live and recorded programs broadcasted directly to classrooms providing students the opportunity to interact with wildlife and natural resource professionals. All programs are TEKS-aligned and include topics such as animal adaptations, predator/prey interactions, water ecosystems, life cycles, and many more.
Critter Connections is TWA’s wildlife and natural resources youth magazine designed for ages 13 and younger.
Land, Water, & Wildlife Expeditions is a conservation partnership between TWA and the district/school that supports teachers by providing TEKS-aligned lessons and an expedition day experience to enhance student comprehension of natural resources as part of their formal science studies.
